Since it's Monday I thought I would do a post on my new desk area. After all, a clean and organized work space means more work gets done throughout the week - well at least for me. So I finally got a new desk and I love it. It's actually a D.I.Y project that I had been wanting to do for a few weeks. I was inspired by this West Elm desk to try and get a similar look but for a lot less. I really wanted the West Elm one but looking at the price I thought "ok that ain't happening!" So what did I do? I headed straight to the land of flatpack furniture and swedish meatballs - Ikea. I ended up finding these lergberg tressle legs for $10.00 each. I then got a precut wood board from Home Depot for about $15.00. Since the board was originally a light wood color I bought a small can of stain in grey, because I wanted a cool tone color rather then something too warm and brown.
For desk accessories, I don't like to keep too much on my desk/ make-up table so I try to only keep the essentials. Everything either comes from TJ Maxx or Home Goods. Except for the brush holder which is from Anthropologie. From TJ Maxx I got this awesome wood and metallic storage box to house all my make-up. I recently got rid of a lot that I wasn't using so all that I could ever need fits perfectly in here. The Coca-Cola glass is also from Tj Maxx and I freaking love it a lot. The fake flower is from Ikea and the mirror and tin candle are from Home Goods.
In the end the desk came out exactly how I had imagined. I'm so happy with it! I love the simplicity of the desk along with the bits of metallic, wood and glass finishes from the accessories. Also, the fact that the desk only cost me around $50 makes it all the better.
